Kupwara Encounter: 2 CRPF Jawans, 2 Jammu And Kashmir Policemen Martyred in Gunfight, 1 Civilian Dead

According to tweet by ANI, the gunfight broke out in Handwara town of Kupwara district after the security forces received inputs about the presence of terrorists in Baba Gund area of Kralgund.

Jammu, March 2: Four security personnel, including two policemen and two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. According to tweet by ANI, the gunfight broke out in Handwara town of Kupwara district after the security forces received inputs about the presence of terrorists in Baba Gund area of Kralgund. A civilian was also killed in the encounter, officials said. The area along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts were heavily shelled by Pakistan for the eighth consecutive day on Friday. Reports inform that the two police personnel who lost their lives identified as SgCt Naseer Ahmad Kholi & SgCt Ghulam Mustafa Barah while the 2 CRPF personnel have been identified as Inspector Pintu & Ct Vinod. The operation is currently underway. According to a report by ANI, the encounter broke out after the terrorists fired indiscriminately on the search party. The J&K police has requested all the citizens not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. The encounter comes amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions in the aftermath of Pulwama terror attack, the subsequent anti-terror operation by India and Pakistan Air Force's attempt to target Indian military installations in Jammu and Kashmir.
