Prayagraj. February 4: In a tragic incident, over a dozen pilgrims were injured in a stampede near Mahaveer crossing in Sector 17 of Kumbh Mela area on Monday, reported Hindustan Times. Women and children also injured during the unfortunate incident. Though security personnel deployed at the place tried to stop the approaching devotees through rope barricading, but crowd outnumbered them. The injured were given primary treatment at the camps. All the injured people are reported from Varanasi. Kumbh Mela is celebrated four times over a course of 12 years. The mega event, which began on January 15 and will continue till March 4 is being held in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 4,200 crore for the 50-day Kumbh Mela this time, which makes it the mega pilgrimage perhaps the costliest ever. The money invested in 2019 is over thrice the budget of the Maha Kumbh in 2013. More than 12 crore people are expected to take part in the festival.
