Sengar was suspended by the BJP earlier this year, after the prosecution advanced the chargesheet against him. The case had drawn flak towards the Yogi Adityanath government in UP as the Opposition had accused the ruling regime of attempting to suppress the matter.
Sengar, apart from being convicted in the rape case, also faces charges of being involved in the "murder" of victim's father. The latter had died under mysterious circumstances after he was detained by the police. The rape victim recently lost her aunt and lawyer in a road accident in Raebareli, which is being linked by her counsel to the rape case whose verdict was issued last month.
