KSRTC Suspends Bus Services Between Bengaluru and Mangalore Due to Heavy Rains, Landslides
The transport body had incurred losses amounting to Rs 89.3 lakh due to cancellation of 706 schedules in the past three days.
Bengaluru, Aug 17: Due to the incessant rains underway in coastal Karnataka region, combined with instances of landslides in the Western Ghats, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has cancelled its premium bus services between Bengaluru and Mangalore.
The decision was taken by KSRTC in the backdrop of a wave of cancellations by passengers who had pre-booked their seats on buses travelling to coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
The transport body had incurred losses amounting to Rs 89.3 lakh due to cancellation of 706 schedules in the past three days. On Wednesday, the KSRTC was forced to cancel 261 scheduled, followed by 258 on Thursday.
The bus services to Kerala were suspended on Wednesday after one KSRTC bus was almost marooned under water in Sulthan Bathery region of Wayanad district.
Meanwhile, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses were suspended since August 14, when heavy rains made a rebound in the region following a two-day gap.
In coastal Karnataka, the SDRF teams have been put on alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned of heavy rains in the region for the next 48 hours.
In Kerala, meanwhile, the crisis has turned unprecedented as over 300 people have been killed and over 2 lakh displaced. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in the flood-ravaged state today to take stock of the situation.
