Kota, October 6: In a startling incident of cow vigilantism reported from Rajasthan's Kota, a sweeper belonging to the Dalit community was beaten by the Nagar Palika chief for carrying a dead cow. The incident was reported on Saturday in Sangod region of Kota. A complaint has been registered by the victim under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with other provisions of the Indian Penal Code. Sangod Station House Officer (SHO) Dhanraj Meena, while speaking to reporters, said the police would act as per the procedure in the case. Action will be taken irrespective of the political influence, he was reported as saying by the local media.
The incident has sparked outrage among the Valmiki community based in Kota's Sangod region. The administration has appealed for restraint and calm, stating that due action would be taken against all those involved in violating the law.
