Kota, October 6: In a startling incident of cow vigilantism reported from Rajasthan's Kota, a sweeper belonging to the Dalit community was beaten by the Nagar Palika chief for carrying a dead cow. The incident was reported on Saturday in Sangod region of Kota. A complaint has been registered by the victim under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with other provisions of the Indian Penal Code. The preliminary probe, along with the local media reports, has revealed that the victim - Rajkumar Valmiki - was carrying a dead cow by dragging it through a tractor. He was apprehended by cow vigilantes at Bapawar Road in Sangod. The gau rakshaks called Sangod Nagar Palika Chairman Devkinandan Rathore and asked him to intervene in the issue.
After Rathore arrived at the spot, he began beating Valmiki with a rope and physically abused him. The incident was caught on camera by the onlookers, and the footage has gone viral on social media.

Sangod Station House Officer (SHO) Dhanraj Meena, while speaking to reporters, said the police would act as per the procedure in the case. Action will be taken irrespective of the political influence, he was reported as saying by the local media.
The incident has sparked outrage among the Valmiki community based in Kota's Sangod region. The administration has appealed for restraint and calm, stating that due action would be taken against all those involved in violating the law.
