Kolkata, August 29: In a shocking incident, a woman threatening to commit suicide on Facebook Live was saved just on time because her friends had dialled 100 to seek help. The woman, a resident of Amtala in Kolkata declared that she was committing suicide on Facebook, seeing that one of her friends informed the Kolkata police control room and another man not known to her also intimated the Kolkata Police control room about the same. The timely intervention of the Police saved her life, even though she had taken sleeping pills by the time they reached her residence. The woman even turned hostile, when Police along with a team of woman constables showed up at her residence. Investigation revealed that the woman was mentally ill for the last 10 years owing to alleged family problems. The father of the girl informed that she was suffering from a psychiatric problem and had stopped taking medicines, other than sleeping pills.
On that day, a joint team of STF and cyber cell took atleast 15 minutes to locate the girl after receiving information about her committing suicide. In another recent incident, an employee of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his rented house here and streamed the action live on Facebook.
The Facebook live stream purportedly showed him climbing atop a cooler, wearing the DMRC uniform. He looked into the camera a couple of times, kissed his company identity card twice before taking his life. A mobile phone kept buzzing in the background as he allegedly committed the act.
