Kolkata, July 8: A six-year-old boy in the Army complex at Gurusaday Road in Kolkata died in a tragic accident while playing with his sister. The boy accidently fell on the ground floor from fifth floor after slipping through the gap between guard railings of staircase. The child was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The child, Yogesh Nayak, lived in the Jamuna building inside Ballygunge Maidan Camp. Times of India reported that the incident occurred around 10 pm on Saturday night. Yogesh's father works as a domestic helper in the same building, and the family used to live in the servant quarter. The tragic accident happened while both the parents were inside. "Yogesh and his sister Sakshi were playing on the staircase in front of their room while their parents were inside. The girl said that Yogesh had attempted to slide down the side guard wall of the staircase but lost his balance and fell through the gap between the rectangular-shaped staircase, plummeting to the ground floor. He sustained severe injuries on his head," a senior police officer was quoted as saying.
After the little girl Sakshi witnessed the incident, she screamed and called her parents. Yogesh was immediately rushed to Calcutta National Medical College, but unfortunately, he succumbed to severe head injuries. A team of police officers took cognizance of the matter, and Yogesh's body was sent for a post-mortem examination. According to the police officers, this is a clear case of an accident and doesn't involve any foul play. The family also did not lodge any complaints.
