Kolkata, September 22: In an unfortunate incident, a woman set herself on fire on a road in a residential area in Haridevpur on Monday evening and died in hospital. Before her death, she named a man, Subir Biswas, who had allegedly driven her to suicide by threatening to circulate her private photos and videos on social media.

According to a report in News9, Both the woman, a widow with a child, and the man, who was married but separated, used to live in Bhowanipore but the man had shifted to Haridevpur seven years ago. On Sunday, too, the woman had gone to the man's residence and was again denied entry. When the woman kept insisting, he allegedly threatened to post her objectionable photos on social media platforms. The woman was shifted immediately to a nearby hospital for treatment by the police officers who reached the spot immediately after receiving the call on 100. However, she died during the treatment.

The police officers recovered a kerosene bottle, a matchbox and a burnt match stick from the spot.

Following her death, a case has been initiated under the IPC section dealing with abetment to suicide based on her statement.

The police said a search has been launched for the accused person.
