Kolkata, June 5: West Bengal Police have arrested two suspects in Nimta area in connection with the murder of Nirmal Kundu, Trinamool Congress president of Ward 6 of North Dum Dum Municipality area. Kundu was shot dead by three bike-borne assailants in North Kolkata under the Nimta Police Station limits. Kolkata: TMC Leader Nirmal Kundu Shot Dead by Unidentified Miscreants.
Soon after the incident, Kundu was rushed to hospital with the bullet injuries but he was declared dead. According to the CCTV footage, the incident took place at 7:30 pm when he was talking to locals at a tea stall when two people on bike and the pillion-rider shot twice at him. The TMC has accused Bharatiya Janata Party of murdering the 35-year-old leader. West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh denied all the allegations and pinned the murder on fractional fights within TMC. The police officials have also detained some people for questioning.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she will visit victim's residence on Thursday. Kandu's murder is the latest in series of clashes between the saffron party and TMC after the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections results. The BJP maintains that Banerjee's party is targeting its local workers. While TMC alleges that BJP is disturbing the regional harmony in the state.
