Kolkata: Heavy Rains Likely Today; Met Department Predicts No Rains During Kali Puja And Diwali 2019

The city received 3.7mm rain of rainfall on Wednesday and could receive an intense spell on Thursday. However, it is expected that by the time it nears Diwali over the weekend, the intensity will decrease. With low-pressure set to recede on October 26, the rains are expected to go away over the weekend.

Kolkata, October 24: Much to the respite of people in Kolkata, Met office has allayed fears of a wet Diwali and Kali Puja. The rains, however, could intensify on Thursday as low pressure approaches Odisha triggering showers across South Bengal. According to a Times of India report, the city received 3.7mm rain of rainfall on Wednesday and could receive an intense spell on Thursday. However, it is expected that by the time it nears Diwali over the weekend, the intensity will decrease. The weather department has, however, predicted only 10 per cent chances of a shower on Sunday, which are likely to be light. Clear weather on Kali puja and Diwali is expected.

With low-pressure set to recede on October 26, the rains are expected to go away over the weekend. The sudden rains have brought down the mercury level, bringing respite to the people in the state. While the met department has predicted no rains during Kali Puja in Kolkata, people on the other hand, in Mumbai are staying in fear as IMD has predicted heavy rains. A yellow alert has also been issued over the weekend.
