Kolkata Girl in T-Shirt & Shorts Asked to Dress 'Decently' by Housing Society President, Files Moral Policing Complaint
In the latest case of moral policing in Kolkata, a young girl was not only asked to dress 'decently', but she was also abused and filthy comments were passed on her dressing style by an elderly man in her society. . Kolkata, July 29: In the latest case of moral policing in the state, a young girl was not only asked to dress 'decently', but she was also abused and filthy comments were passed on her dressing style by an elderly man in her society. According to a Times of India report, the girl, who was wearing a t-shirt and shorts had gone to the society office to complain about water pipeline leakage at her apartment and it was then that the incident took place. She had booked a technician's appointment to fix the leakage in the washroom. However, the technician was not allowed entry because it was passed the society's time to allow people from outside to come and work. So the girl had gone to the society office to request them to allow the technician to her flat. However, she narrates that the moment she entered the office room, all eyes were staring at her body and they asked her to dress properly in front of gentlemen sitting in the room.
The third-year Presidency University had lodged a complaint of moral policing against the President of the housing society in EM Bypass. After the complaint was lodged, cops came to her place, but they left citing it was the internal matter of the housing society.
Harassed by the whole incident, she wrote an email to the police commissioner of Kolkata and also tweeted to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Cops came again to her place and recorded the statement, however, they have not mentioned what action will be taken.
