Kolkata, October 15: A moderate-intensity fire erupted at a chemical godown in Tangra, located in the eastern part of the city. No casualties were reported in the blaze, a fire brigade official said.

The exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, another officer said, noting that high amount of chemical was stacked in the factory's godown.
The fire incident comes days after a the Bagree market in Kolkata went up in flames. The blaze was of the highest-intensity the city had seen in the recent past, with the firefighting officials requiring more than 40 hours to douse off the flames.
No casualties were then reported as the fire had erupted on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, on September 16, when the market was closed.
According to experts, the unprecedented congestion in Kolkata, combined with unplanned construction, is the primary cause of fires in the city.
