Mumbai, August 15: In a heartwarming incident that took place in West Bengal, doctors managed to save a toddler's life after the child was reported with scissors piercing his brain. Doctors at the state-run Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (IPGMER) conducted an emergency surgery and saved the toddler's life. The two years and ten-month-old boy was reported to the hospital on Friday night after a pair of scissors pierced into his brain around the left eye.

According to a report in the Times of India, the toddler, identified as Shiekh Mikhail, was reportedly playing at his home in Howrah's Narendrapur when the pair of scissors accidentally pierced into his brain. As per the report, the boy was alone in his room when the incident occurred. Soon after the parents heard their child's screams, they rushed the boy to Jagatballavpur Rural Hospital, where they were referred to IPGMER.

The parents brought their son to SSKM's emergency at around 9.30 pm. Soon doctors conducted a CT scan which revealed that the pointed end of the scissors had reportedly penetrated into the child's brain. The injury not only caused bleeding inside but also did severe damage to the dura. The duar is the outer layer of tissues that covers and protects the brain and the spinal cord.

Speaking about the surgery, professor Subhasis Ghosh, head of neurosurgery, said, "We conducted a craniotomy that involves opening of the boy's skull to prevent further damage. In a surgery that lasted about two and a half hours, we removed the object. The extremely challenging anaesthesia was done efficiently by the anaesthesia team headed by Aripta Laha."

After the surgery, doctors said that the boy was out of danger and was recovering well. While the scissors have been removed, luckily, there was no damage to the child's vision.
