Kolkata, August 14: The shocking rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College has prompted the Calcutta High Court to order a CBI investigation. The victim’s parents, in a petition to the court, alleged gang-rape, citing the post-mortem report, which found 150 mg of semen in her body—a quantity suggesting involvement of multiple perpetrators.

According to a report in NDTV, the victim was strangled and had sustained numerous injuries, including bite marks on her neck, lip injuries, and head trauma. Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Rahul Gandhi Breaks Silence on RG Kar Hospital Incident, Says ‘Attempt to Save Accused’.

One suspect, Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested a day after the body was found. The post-mortem report suggests that Roy violently assaulted the victim as she attempted to resist the attack.

The case has sparked nationwide anger, with protesters, including BJP supporters, demanding justice for the victim and her family. There have also been calls for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who holds the police and healthcare portfolios. Protesters are demanding exemplary punishment for those responsible for the heinous crime.
