Kolkata: CMRI Hospital to Pay Rs 50,000 as Fine For Physical Assault on Elderly Patient Inside ICU in 2018

West Bengal Health Regulatory Commission was formed in 2017 following a rise in the number of medical negligence issues in the state. The commission has taken strict action based on the complaints of their patients and their families and many hospitals have faced the whip of the body.

Kolkata, December 9: A private hospital in the city has been asked to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation to an elderly patient who was allegedly abused by a female attendant at the ICU last year. According to a Times of India report, based on the complaint filed by the patient's family against hospital CMRI, West Bengal Health Regulatory Commission has asked the hospital to pay above mentioned amount to the patient's family.

The victim's son alleged that her mother faced physical harassment at the hands of a female attendant inside the ICU in 2018. The hospital has issued a statement saying that they have received the order from the Commission and are looking into it. Kolkata: Columbia Asia Hospital Faces Negligence Charge.

Last year, a patient who was admitted to Columbia Asia Hospital in Kolkata after having stomach pain, suffered multiple organ failure after she was infused with the wrong blood group during the surgery.
