Kolhapur, September 15: A 23-year-old woman, Pooja Magare, has been arrested for severely injuring her six-year-old stepdaughter with a hot iron rod in a village in Hatkanangale in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur. The incident occurred on Friday when Pooja, upset over the child wetting the bed and snoring used the spatula to burn the girl's neck, lips, and private parts.
According to Assistant Inspector Pankaj Giri, the child’s father, Shubham Magare, who is from Shahapur Dhandegaon village in Jalna, works in Kolhapur and resides in Kasarwadi with his family. On Friday morning, Shubham left for work, leaving Pooja at home with the children. In the evening, after the bed-wetting incident, Pooja’s rage led her to inflict burns on the child using a heated spatula. Upon returning from work, Shubham Magare was horrified to find his daughter with severe injuries. He immediately took her to a private hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment. Pooja Magare has been charged under Section 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing grievous hurt with dangerous means and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
In a similar incident in Mumbai, a 32-year-old woman allegedly assaulted her nine-year-old daughter after discovering she had wet the bed.
