New Delhi, July 7: Kitty Kumaramangalam, wife of later former Union Minister PR Kumaramangalam, was found death at her house in Delhi last night. Kitty Kumaramangalam was 67. Police suspect she was murdered during a robbery attempt and one person has been detained. Cops were also looking for two other accused who could be linked to Kitty Kumaramangalam's death. "She was murdered at her residence in Vasant Vihar last night. One person has been detained, and search is on for two other accused," a senior police officer was quoted by news agency ANI as saying. Preliminary investigation suggests she was suffocated to death with a pillow. The arrested accused has been identified as 24-year-old Raju, who was the victim's washerman. According to a report by The Hindu, Raju visited Kitty Kumaramangalam's house around 9 pm. When the domestic help opened the door, she was overpowered and confined in a room. Then, two other men entered the house and assaulted Kitty. Raju then smothered her with a pillow, the report added. Kitty had served as a Supreme Court lawyer.
Her husband PR Kumaramangalam served as Union Minister of State, Parliamentary Affairs and Law, Justice and Company Affairs between 1991 and 92, Parliamentary Affairs Minister between 1992 and 1993, and as the Power Minister in 1998.
