Patna, December 7: Noted Islamic scholar and Congress parliamentarian from Kishanganj constituency in Bihar - Maulana Asrar-ul-Haque Qasmi – passed away in the early hours of Friday. The 76-year-old lawmaker died following a heart attack.

The popular leader contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2009 from Kishanganj on a Congress ticket and won the elections. Qasmi was the founding member of All India Milli Council and also served All India Muslim Personal Law Board as a member. The leader was against the Narendra Modi-led Union government for attempting to create a cashless economy. He had criticised Boko Haram and stated that the organisation was a part of the conspiracy.
