The Kranti Yatra began from Tikait Ghat in Haridwar on September 23, was joined by farmers from various parts of Uttar Pradesh. The Yatra is being organised from Patanjali (Uttarakhand) to Kisan Ghat (Delhi) via Muzaffarnagar, Daurala, Partapur, Modi Nagar/Muradnagar, Hindon Ghat between September 23 and October 2.

New Delhi, October 2: Thousands of farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) marched towards Delhi to press for their long-pending demands. The protesting farmers called the 'Kisan Kranti Padyatra' to demand a complete loan waiver and reduction in electricity tariff,  a provision of a pension to every farmer aged above 60, reduction in electricity tariff among other demands. The Kranti Yatra began from Tikait Ghat in Haridwar on September 23, was joined by farmers from various parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The farmers' protest has been organised from Patanjali in Uttarakhand to Kisan Ghat in Delhi via Muzaffarnagar, Daurala, Partapur, Modi Nagar/Muradnagar, Hindon Ghat between September 23 and October 2. A massive crowd gathered on streets and blocked traffic movement on roads leading to the national capital.

In the wake of the protest, the National Highways leading to Delhi were crowded with farmers who came in from places as far as Gonda, Basti and Gorakhpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The farmers were seen carrying banners of Bhartiya Kisan Union, which gave the call for the march to press for a series of demands. 'Kisan Kranti Padyatra' to Reach Delhi Today, Security Tightened.

The protest turned violent in the Delhi-UP border, where police used water cannons to disperse protesters after protesters broke the barricades after farmers were been stopped during 'Kisan Kranti Padyatra'. Meanwhile, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said farmers should not be stopped from entering the capital. "Farmers should be allowed to enter Delhi. Why are they not being allowed to enter Delhi? This is wrong. We are with the farmers",  Kejriwal was quoted by ANI.

According to reports, the security has been beefed up at the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border and Section 144 of CPC has been imposed in several areas of Delhi to prevent any untoward incident. Meanwhile, in east Delhi, prohibitory orders have been issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, would be in force until October 8.
