A massive march of farmers gathered at Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border during the 'Kisan Kranti Padyatra'.

New Delhi, October 2: A massive march of farmers gathered at Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border during the 'Kisan Kranti Padyatra' on Tuesday. The 'Kisan Kranti Padyatra' has been organised by farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union. They're seeking complete loan waiver, lower electricity tariff including other demands. It is estimated that around 20,000 farmers, led by Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait, are marching from Haridwar to New Delhi asking for complete loan waiver, pension, and other demands. 'Kisan Kranti Padyatra' to Reach Delhi Today, Security Tightened.

Due to the huge number of people, the police have barricaded the border and imposed prohibitory orders across east and northeast Delhi to stop them.

“We will continue our march till our demands are met. The talks (with the ministers) should go on. Whenever we feel that our work is done, we will stop our protest. If farmers are given an assurance, they will be happy. We have already given four years to the government to meet our demands. It is time that our demands are met,” Tikait said.

The farmers have demanded loan waivers and free electricity supply for running tubewell. They said that the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna should cover all the crops and a good premium must be paid.

The other demands include the assurance of minimum income for farmers and a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 for farmers who have completed 60 years of age.

The protestors are trying to enter the national capital with hundreds of tractors and private vehicles. There can be a possibility that they are carrying lathis, sticks or any weapon, say reports.

As a precautionary move commuters going towards Hapur, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Roorkee, and Haridwar have been advised to avoid the Meerut Expressway and suggested to take routes from Ghazipur chowk, Road number 56 towards ISBT Anand Vihar and Apsara Border.
