Thane, Aug 6: A police complaint has been filed in Maharashtra's Thane district by the kin of two brothers alleging that the siblings were kidnapped while on a business tour to Malaysia, an official said today.

According to the complaint, one of the brothers called up home on August 2 at around 10.30 pm to inform the family that they had been kidnapped by unknown persons who were demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore, police said.

The family received several calls from the siblings on August 3, between 8 and 11 pm, repeating the demand following which their uncle lodged a complaint with Dombivali police last evening, they added.

A police official said that a case was registered under section 364 A (kidnapping for ransom) and 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) and further investigations were underway.

Family members also got in touch with the Indian Embassy in Malaysia and a complaint was lodged with the southeast Asian country's police as well, an official, quoting the FIR, said here. The anti-extortion cell of Thane Police was also directed to conduct investigations into the case, the official added.
