Mumbai, September 3: Three citizens of Bangladesh have exposed the elaborate kidney trafficking ring operating in India by recounting their own experiences in a recent chargesheet filed by the law enforcement authorities. These three people fell victim to a kidney trafficking syndicate in India, and each lost one of their kidneys in the harrowing process.

These unsuspecting individuals were trapped in the trafficking business on the promise of employment, as per a Times of India report. They were drugged and taken for medical examinations, and after they regained consciousness, they found one of their kidneys had been surgically removed. Their testimonies exposing the schemes are registered under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code or the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Organ Transplant Racket Busted in Delhi: 7, Including Female Doctor Arrested in Connection With International Organ Transplant; Main Accused a Bangladeshi.

How Does the Gang Operate?

The gang preys on economic vulnerabilities of individuals who seek a chance at a better life. They target patients suffering from kidney diseases by visiting dialysis centres in Bangladesh. Exploiting the depraved financial conditions of people with low incomes in Bangladesh, the gang brings them as donors to kidney patients by luring them into promises of employment opportunities. Further, the documents of these people are fabricated to enable transplants regardless of whether they are eligible to donate kidneys or not.

Testimonies of Victims

The 30-year-old AB (name undisclosed for privacy) of Bangladesh lost his cloth business in a fire. He took a debt of BDT 8 Lakh, and the pressure of repaying this debt lured him into the treacherous scheme. He arrived in India on June 1, hoping to claim a job opportunity as his friend suggested to him. However, the men there pressured him to donate a kidney for money. When he refused, his passport and visa were seized to prevent him from leaving unless he complied.

Similarly, a 35-year-old CD, was lured into employment opportunities by one Taskin in Bangladesh. He was transported to India on February 2, where two men named Rasel and Mohammed Rokon, asked him to undergo a medical examination before claiming the job at a hospital. After a few tests and ECG, a nurse drugged CD, and he lost consciousness. When he woke up on April 5, he found a scar and stitch marks on his abdomen. He had undergone surgery, and on April 6, Rasel relocated him to a hotel and deposited BDT 4 Lakh into CD's account. After confiscating CD's passport, Rasel instructed CD to return to Bangladesh as he could not be employed since his visa had expired. Sex Trafficking in Tamil Nadu: Court Convicts Former Woman Teacher for Attempted Human Trafficking of Girl Students.

Another citizen of Bangladesh, one TM, underwent a similar tragedy. A man, named Aronno, had reached him via Facebook and promised him a job in India. He, too, went through rigorous medical examinations where a lot of blood was drawn from him. He felt weak and lost consciousness, following which he found one of his kidneys missing. He was reportedly paid BDT 4.5 Lakh for his suffering.

Police Case and Aftermath

The three ultimately returned to Bangladesh and filed police complaints. The police registered a chargesheet under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, and a trial is set to begin, as per reports. Charges were registered against Rasel, Sumon Miyan, Mohammad Rokon, Ratesh Pal, Sharique, a doctor who supposedly performed the kidney removal surgery and her assistant Vikram. Seven people were arrested, including the doctor, in July, but the Delhi High Court granted bail to the surgeon in August.
