Chandigarh, August 11: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Chandigarh has directed the manager of KFC, Sector 35, to pay INR 12,000 to a city resident for delivering a non-vegetarian burger instead of a vegetarian one.
According to the Indian Express, Anirudha Gupta, a regular KFC customer, and his wife, who is a strict vegetarian, placed an order on May 3, 2023. He ordered a chicken bucket for himself and a classic veg krisper for his wife through KFC’s online app, making a UPI payment of INR 696.59. According to Gupta, his wife experienced an unfamiliar taste upon taking the first bite of the burger and discovered it contained chicken. This caused her to vomit immediately due to her vegetarian diet. Gupta claimed that the incident caused his wife significant mental distress.
In response, the KFC manager argued that the complaint was baseless and intended to extort money and defame the brand. The manager stated that the order was a takeaway, collected after being checked on the premises. KFC also highlighted that their packaging clearly distinguishes between vegetarian and non-vegetarian items with specific symbols.
