Thrissur, May 28: A tragic incident unfolded in Thrissur as a woman lost her life and 178 others fell ill after consuming biryani at a local restaurant. The victims, who experienced symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting, were admitted to various hospitals across the district in the Perinjanam region of Kerala. Following the outbreak, Health Department officials and representatives from the Food Safety Department initiated the inspection of the local restaurant.

As per a report by Times Now, the deceased, identified as 56-year-old Uzaiba from Kutilakkadav, along with two other relatives, was admitted to Thrissur Medical College with severe stomach ache and vomiting after consuming biryani. As per another report by the Economic Times,  the Panchayat President, Vineeta Mohandas, confirmed that residents of Perinjanam and Kaypamangalam who fell ill were admitted to various hospitals in Kodungallur and Iringalakuda. The restaurant was promptly shut down after the inspections revealed it was operating under unsanitary conditions. Food samples were taken to determine the precise cause of the food poisoning. Preliminary findings suggest that mayonnaise served with "kuzhimanthi," a Yemeni-inspired dish, could be the cause of food poisoning. The health department has announced that legal actions will be pursued against the hotel management once the final report is received. An official report has been filed at the Kaypamangalam Police Station and Perinjanam Panchayat. Authorities have promised strict action against the restaurant in response to this severe public health incident.
