Kerala Rains: IMD Warns of Isolated Heavy Rainfall Over Next Four Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued isolated heavy rainfall warning for Kerala over the next four days.

Thiruvananthapuram, September 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued isolated heavy rainfall warning for Kerala over the next four days. IMD Kerala Director K Santosh while speaking to news agency ANI said, “We have issued isolated heavy rainfall warning for Kerala for the next four days. Expecting widespread rainfall in entire Kerala for next five days.” In the wake of heavy rainfall warning in the state, the Kerala CMO has issued a yellow alert in Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Wayanad districts for September 25.

The alert has also been issued in Palakkad, Idukki, Thrissur and Wayanad districts for September 26. The State Disaster Management Authority has instructed district authorities to be on alert and directed them to take necessary precautions.

Heavy rains had lashed Kerala in August this year. Around 400 lost their lives in the floods caused by heavy and incessant rains, while thousands of people rendered homeless. The central government issued a financial aid of Rs 500 crore to the state. The Indian Defence Forces along with other government had also launched the Operation Madad to evacuate people from flood-hit areas to safer locations. The centre has declared it as ‘the calamity of severe nature’.
