Pala Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday sent Mulakkal to judicial custody till October 6. The court on Saturday rejected the bail application of the accused, after which he was sent to two-day police custody. According to police, the medical examination confirmed that the nun was sexually assaulted.
Earlier this month, an inquiry commission formed by the Missionaries of Jesus had given a clean chit to Mulakkal. The inquiry commission said the nun who alleged rape conspired with others to defame Mulakkal. The victim broke her silence three months ago and registered a case against the Bishop on June 27. The accused priest, however, has refuted the charge, claiming that he is being targeted through a "well-hatched conspiracy".
