Thiruvananthapuram, August 7: Sister Lucy Kalappura, one of the nuns who had participated in the protest against rape-accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal, has been dismissed from the Franciscan Clarist Congregation, according to the latest ANI update. She was earlier warned several times by the Church ‘since her lifestyle and actions are not in line with our religious and community life’.
As per reports, Sister Lucy consistently stood with the survivor nun in the Bishop Franco rape case and has been vocal too on how the Church is wrong in cornering the nuns who are standing for a cause.
A charge sheet was filed against the 54-year-old clergyman Bishop Franco early this year. He was booked by the police under IPC sections 342, 376 (2)(k) and (n), 377, and 506 (I).
The filing of the charge sheet was welcomed by 'Save Our Sisters', a collective of nuns and members of the Church, calling it a historic day in the realm of law and justice. Kerala Nun Rape Case: Chargesheet Filed, Bishop Franco Mulakkal to Face Trial.

The complaint against him was registered in June last year by the Kuravilangad police, after a nun alleged that she was raped by Mullakal at a guest house multiple times between May 2014 to September 2016. The nun said she had to approach the police as church authorities did not act on her repeated complaints against the clergyman. However, Mulakkal had denied the allegations as "baseless and concocted".
Missionaries of Jesus had given a clean chit to Bishop Franco Mulakkal pertaining to the case. The inquiry commission said the nun who alleged rape conspired with others to defame Bishop Franco Mulakkal.
