Kerala Nun Rape Case: NCW Asks Kerala MLA PC Geoge To Appear Before It On October 4 For Objectionable Remark Against Victim
National Commission for Women (NCW) has again written a letter to Kerala Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) PC Geroge asking him to appear before it on October 4 for making objectionable statements
Kochi, September 20: National Commission for Women (NCW) has written a letter to Kerala Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) PC Geroge asking him to appear before it on October 4 for making objectionable statements about the nun who has filed a complaint of rape against a Roman Catholic Bishop. In the letter, the NCW wrote. “NCW took cognisance of the news report in which you have allegedly made objectionable statements about the nun.”
Yesterday, George withdrew a petition he had filed before the High Court challenging the previous notice of NCW issued on September 17 that asked him to appear before it in New Delhi on September 20. The MLA’s counsel withdrew the petition after the court declined to interfere in the case. In the petition, George said that he did not make any defamatory statement against the victim.
The 54-year-old Bishop Franco Mulakkal is accused of raping a 44-year-old nun, associated with the Catholic Convent in Kottayam, 12 times between 2014 and 2016. She broke her silence three months ago and registered a case against the Bishop on June 27. The accused priest, however, has refuted the charge, claiming that he is being targeted through a "well-hatched conspiracy". Bishop Mulakkal is being questioned by Kerala Police in connection with the case.
