Thiruvananthapuram, January 16: Missionaries of Jesus sent reminder notice to four nuns in Kerala convent regarding their transfer. They were transferred from Kerala in April 2018 but had refused to move out. The notice was issued against the four out of five nuns who had earlier protested against Bishop Franco Mulakkal for allegedly raping their fellow nun. According to The News Minute report, Sister Alphy Pallasseril, Sister Anupama Kelamangalathuveliyil, Sister Josephine Villoonnickal, and Sister Ancitta Urumbil, were asked to leave the Kuravilangad convent. However, Superior General Regina Kadamthottu has not the fifth nun Sister Nina Rose who was also part of the protest to leave. According to the report, Sister Anupama, has been asked to go back to Chamiyari community in Punjab, while Sister Ancitta has been asked to join the Pariyaram community in Kannur. Sister Alphy has been asked to join the Pakartala community in Bihar and Sister Alphy, who is close to the survivor nun, has returned to Kerala to provide moral support, reports TNM.
A nun from Kerala has accused that she was raped by a 54-year-old priest on several occasions between 2014 and 2016. The nun even appealed to the Vatican seeking justice. She also marked the plea to 21 other high ranking authorities of the Roman Catholic Church in India. An FIR was registered against the bishop. Mulakkal was removed from the position of Bishop by Pope Francis on September 20. Meanwhile, The Kerala High Court in October granted conditional bail to Mulakkal. The court had asked the former Bishop to surrender his passport and appear before the police every two weeks.
