Thiruvananthapuram, August 29: In a distressing incident of a honey trap, a gang of four individuals reportedly extorted a substantial sum of money and valuable cheque leaves from an 82-year-old man who was living alone in Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. The incident occurred on August 23 and has since led to a case being registered by the Medical College Police. The accused individuals have been identified as Sheeja and Ameena, with two others yet to be identified.
According to the Times of India reports, the victim, a resident of Pottakuzhi in Pattom, was familiar with the primary accused, Sheeja. Sheeja, accompanied by another woman introduced as her daughter Ameena, visited the victim's house around 2 pm on Wednesday. During their conversation, two unidentified men forcibly entered the residence and menacingly threatened the elderly man, stating that they would undress him and take explicit pictures with the women if he did not comply, insinuating a honey trap scenario. The perpetrators pointed a knife and demanded Rs 30,000 from the victim while threatening to exploit compromising images with the women. Under pressure, the victim wrote a cheque of Rs 30,000, which the women promptly withdrew from an SBI branch in Pattom. The men remained present, ensuring the victim's compliance. The gang returned on August 25 and forcefully took away an additional Rs 15,000 from the victim's house. Moreover, the gang managed to grab cheque leaves from the victim, coercing him to fill out two cheques worth Rs 5 lakhs each, along with four other signed blank cheques. Upon seeking legal advice, the victim registered a case with the Medical College Police Station. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is in its initial stages, involving the verification of evidence and statements provided by the complainant.
