Kannur, June 22: In what is likely to further raise questions at the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Kerala High Court has taken cognizance of the suicide case of NRI investor Sajan Parayil in Kannur district. According to the deceased's wife, her husband was depressed as the Left controlled municipality was not approving permit for his convention centre.

The 49-year-old was found dead in his residence in Kottali on Thursday. Reports claim that his application seeking permit for an auditorium in Bakkalam was being rejected for the last six years by the Left-controlled Anthoor municipality. Kerala: Mother-Daughter Duo Set Themselves on Fire After Defaulting on Home Loan

The CPI(M) has landed in a spot, as the municipality chairman, PK Shyamala is the wife of MV Govindan, a member of the party secretariat.

Parayil owned an agro-business firm in Nigeria, and was simultaneously investing in the auditorium in Kannur for the last six years. Nearly Rs 16 crore had been invested by him so far, his wife Beena told reporters, adding that he was "severely depressed" due to the permit not being granted by the civic body.

A high-level probe has been launched by the Kannur police into the incident. The state government, which is monitoring the investigation, has assured that no culprit shall be left out.

At least four officials of the municipal corporation have been suspended and are set to face a departmental inquiry. Those who have been sacked are Municipality secretary KM Gireesh, assistant engineer K Kalesh and Overseers TA Augustine and B Sudheer, confirmed Local Bodies Minister AC Moideen.
