Thiruvananthapuram, July 25: In a bid to enhance road safety, the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has introduced a new regulation prohibiting two-wheeler riders from conversing with their pillion passengers. The directive aims to mitigate the risk of road accidents by addressing the distractions caused by talking while riding.

The MVD has circulated this new rule to all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), emphasising strict enforcement. Joint Transport Commissioner K Manoj Kumar has urged RTOs to take immediate action against any violations of this regulation. While the specific penalties for breaking this rule have not been disclosed, the report highlights the critical reasons behind the move. Kerala Government Serves Show Cause Notice to Eight Employees After Social Media Reels Showing Them Singing and Dancing in Office Go Viral.

Talking to a pillion passenger can lead to compromised concentration, impaired decision-making, and delayed reaction times. Such distractions can divert attention from crucial road conditions and traffic scenarios, significantly increasing the likelihood of accidents. Engaging in conversation often involves turning the head or adjusting posture, which can destabilise the bike and compromise the rider's control, especially at high speeds or in heavy traffic. Kerala Govt's Book Propagates Islamic Orthodoxy? The Kerala MVD's new rule underscores the importance of maintaining full attention on the road. However, implementation details remain a challenge. Officials are currently exploring effective ways to enforce the regulation and ensure compliance among riders.

The initiative reflects Kerala’s commitment to reducing road accidents and promoting safer driving practices. As the new regulation takes effect, riders are advised to adhere strictly to the guidelines to avoid penalties and contribute to safer roads.
