Kerala Floods: Two Specials Trains Will Run To Kolkata From Thiruvananthapuram And Ernakulam On August 20
As the rains have subsided in Kerala, two special trains will run tomorrow to Kolkata from Trivandrum and Ernakulam. Train services are expected to restore on all lines by tomorrow evening.
Thiruvananthapuram, August 19: As the rains have subsided in Kerala, two special trains will run tomorrow to Kolkata from Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam. Train services are expected to restore on all lines by tomorrow evening. Meanwhile, commercial flights will start operating from Kochi Naval Base from tomorrow. The central government has stepped up the rescue and relief operations in the state. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will airlift 60 tonnes of emergency medicines tomorrow.
In addition to this, a special train with 14 lakh litres of water and Navy ship with eight lakh litres of water will reach Kerala by August 20. Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) withdrew the red alert issued to 11 of the 14 districts of the state. The department has now predicted only moderate rainfall in the state over the next five days.
The death toll has risen to 370 in the floods that hit Kerala due to heavy and incessant rains that lashed the state. Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial along with chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the regions affected by floods. PM Modi also issued a financial aid of Rs 500 to the state. United Arab Emirates and Qatar have also offered support in relief and rescue operation in Kerala. The Indian Defence Forces along with National Disaster Response Team (NDRF) have launched Operation Madad to evacuate people to safe places.
