Mallapuram, August 10: Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in several parts of Kerala. Several districts in Kerala are battling flood fury for a second consecutive year. On Saturday, a video surfaced showing a narrow escape of a man from a mudslide in Malappuram district of Kerala. The horrific sequence of events was captured in a CCTV camera.

In the video, the man carrying a black umbrella is seen walking towards an elderly woman. Suddenly, mudslide occurs. The man alerts the woman and runs to avoid getting trapped in the mudslide. While the man narrowly escaped, the elderly woman was apparently swept away. Video Shows Narrow Escape of Man From Mudslide in Malappuram:

Two major incidents of landslides have been reported from Wayanad and Malappuram in the last three days. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said the death toll in Kerala floods has reached 42 and more than one lakh people have been shifted to over 800 relief camps across the rain-battered state. The 42 deaths have been reported in the past three days.

Vijayan said that 80 landslides, which have caused the maximum destruction, have been reported from eight worst affected districts, including Meppadi in Wayanad and Kavalapara in Malappuram districts. "Authorities are still not able to ascertain the actual number of missing in these two areas. According to unconfirmed reports, 41 are missing from Kavalapara," said Vijayan.

A red alert for heavy rain has been issued today in Ernakulam, Palakkad, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Waynad and Kannur. A red alert has also been issued for three districts for tomorrow.
