Kochi, January 19: The Indian couple from Kerala, the Indian couple, who died after falling off a cliff at California’s Yosemite National Park in October last year, were drunk, an autopsy has revealed, as reported by the Daily Mail. Vishnu Viswanath and his wife Meenakshi Moorthy were "intoxicated with ethyl alcohol prior to death", a toxicology report from Stanislaus Country Coroner’s office said.
"We can only conclude that they had consumed alcohol but it is unknown to what level of intoxication,” Sung-Ook Baik was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. The autopsy also said the couple died of multiple injuries to the head, neck, chest and abdomen. Vishnu and Meenakshi died after falling from iconic Taft Point in Yosemite National Park. Speaking to Fox News, Vishnu's brother Jishnu Viswanath had said that the couple were apparently clicking a selfie when they fell to death. Rangers in Yosemite National Park were alerted after some people found an unattended camera on a tripod near the popular viewpoint. Their bodies were recovered on October 25, 2018. They reportedly fell approximately 800 feet below Taft Point in an area with very steep terrain.
Ironically, the couple, who ran the travel blog ‘Holidays and Happily Ever Afters’, had in March last year warned people of the dangers of taking selfies from on the edge of cliffs and atop skyscrapers. Moorthy had posted a picture of herself at the Grand Canyon, saying in the caption that “A lot of us including yours truly is a fan of daredevilry attempts of standing at the edge of cliffs. But did you know that wind gusts can be fatal? Is our life worth one photo?”
