Kochi, January 6: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan termed the attack on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students as a 'Nazi-style attack' and stated that the onslaught on students is the result of intolerance. According to a tweet by ANI, Vijayan said that the Nazi-style attack on students and teachers on the JNU campus are carried out by those who want to create unrest and violence in the country.
The Chief Minister further went on to say that the Sangh Parivar forces must withdraw from this dangerous game of bloodshed on campus. He said that it would be good if they understand that voice of students' are the voice of the land. On Sunday, violence was witnessed in the JNU as several masked individuals thrashed students, including girls, and teachers inside the campus with wooden and metal rods, injuring many. According to a latest update by ANI, Delhi Police Sources stated that FIR has been registered in connection with violence in JNU on Sunday and 23 students who were admitted to hospital have been discharged. Students in the JNU campus were terrified after masked men and women barged into hostels, ransacked rooms and beat up the frightened students. Hostel rooms, and lobbies, and vehicles standing on the road were vandalised during the assault.
In the wake of the violence in the JNU campus, the JNUSU demanded the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar. More than 18 students of the university, including JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, were injured and were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre after a masked mob entered the JNU and attacked them and professors with sticks and rods.
