Kerala: Ambulance Catches Fire In Front Of Government Hospital In Alappuzha; Patient Dies

Alappuzha, September 6: In a tragic incident, a 108 service ambulance caught fire in front of Champakulam Government Hospital in Alappuzha yesterday. The patient inside the ambulance who was being transported from the Champakulam Hospital to Alappuzha Medical College died in the fire accident. The nurse, who was with the patient and ambulance driver sustained burns. According to media reports, the 66-year-old patient Mohanan Nair was shifted to another ambulance after the incident, but he died on his way to the hospital.

Four motorbikes, a car, an auto rickshaw and a shop caught fire. Nair had a breathing problem after which he was taken to the Chambakkulam government hospital. The doctor of the hospital directed the relatives to take him to another hospital as there was no IP unit there.

The fire broke out in the ambulance as the nurse tried to connect the oxygen cylinder which led to a spark. Nair was immediately shifted to another ambulance. According to a report published in The Times of India, The vehicle burst into flames just after 15 minutes. The police have started a probe into the incident. However, the authorities have not been able to establish the exact cause of the incident.
