Kannur, July 25: A 17-year-old boy passed away on Tuesday, July 22, allegedly due to post-surgical bleeding following a minor keyhole surgery for tonsillitis performed last week at a private ENT hospital in Kannur town of Kerala. Sooryajith, a 12th-grade student from Kannadiparambu, underwent surgery on July 17. His family alleges that medical negligence at the private hospital led to his untimely death. Kannur town police have registered a case of unnatural death related to the incident.

Sooryajith was discharged the same day the surgery was performed, following the doctor's instructions. Two days later, he experienced minor bleeding from his nose. The ENT doctor who had conducted the surgery informed his parents that slight bleeding after the procedure was normal, the New Indian Express reported. Medical Negligence in Kerala Hospital: Kozhikode Medical College Hospital Orders Probe Into Four-Year-Old Girl’s Surgery Goof-Up.

On Monday, July 22, Sooryajith's nosebleed worsened, and the doctor advised his parents to take him to another hospital where he also practices. Around midnight, Sooryajith was treated for the nosebleed but later complained of severe stomach pain and was given an injection. Sooryajith then appeared to fall into a deep sleep, and his parents, believing he was resting, did not wake him. The next morning, at around 8:30, his mother, Anima, found him motionless. Medical Negligence in Kerala Hospital: In Major Goof-Up at Kozhikode Medical College, Doctor Implants Wrong Rod in Patient's Hand Who Had Met With Accident.

"Despite attempts to revive him, he was unresponsive and was transferred to another hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival," Ajitha said. She noted that Sooryajith had no prior medical issues and suspected medical errors due to post-surgery bleeding. They are awaiting the postmortem report to determine the exact cause.

The family has filed a case against the ENT hospital. "We registered a case on Tuesday morning. The boy's parents have raised allegations against the ENT clinic and the private hospital. We are waiting for the postmortem examination report to proceed with further action," a police officer was quoted as saying

While speaking to TNEX, the ENT hospital said, "It was a very minor surgery. Some patients might experience minor bleeding; we had already informed the parents. We are not sure about the exact cause of the boy's death. He might have had unknown genetic disorders. Nonetheless, we are prepared to face legal formalities, as there is no fault on our part."
