Chennai, August 6: In a shocking road accident in Tamil Nadu, a speeding ambulance allegedly knocked down a 47-year-old woman at Kelambakkam. The accident occurred on Sunday night, August 4. The victim was later identified as Premalatha, a resident of Thaiyur. Police official said that the deceased woman was riding pillion with her husband, Srinivasan, when the accident took place.
According to a report in the Times of India, the horrific accident occurred when Premalatha and Srinivasan were returning home from Padur. Cops said that at around PM, the couple who were on a bike were waiting at the median to turn left towards their apartment when all of a sudden, an ambulance came from behind and hit them. The impact of the collision was such that Premalatha was thrown off the bike and was then runover by the ambulance. It is reported that she died on the spot. However, Srinivasan escaped the accident with injuries. Officials said that the ambulance belonnging to a private hospital was proceeding from Kelambakkam to Thiruporur when the accident happend.
After the incident, the police registered a case against the driver for causing death due to negligence. They have also launched a probe to know more about the ambulance. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased woman was sent to Chromepet government hospital for a post-mortem. In a separate incident that occurred in June, a 60-year-old man was allegedly beheaded by a relative over a property dispute near Manimangalam. Cops said that the deceased, Dayalan of Athananjeri village, was found dead in front of his under-construction house.
