Rudraprayag, June 6: With an aim to boost the tourism sector in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand government is planning to build an Rs 8-crore glass bridge over the Mandakini river from Rambara to Kedarnath shrine in Rudraprayag district. The glass bridge would be similar to glass bridge in China, situated in Huaxi World Adventure Park in East China's Jiangsu.

According to a report, published in the Hindustan Times, the new venture will provide a different feeling to pilgrims visiting Kedarnath, apart from reducing the distance between Ramabara and the shrine. The glass bridge would be constructed in Rambara district, which was washed away by the overflowing Mandakini river in 2013 floods. Stating more about the plans, a Rudraprayag district administration official said, as the daily quotes, "The village which was once bustling with tourists now lies isolated as nobody wants to stay there or visit it after what it faced during the tragedy. With the project, we plan to revive Rambara"

Apart from this, the official informed that the glass bridge would be about 80 meters long and will have a height of 60-65 metres over the river. Also, the bridge would also have paintings depicting Uttarakhand’s natural beauty on both sides, the official added.

Stating that the project has been approved, Garhwal divisional commissioner BVRC Purushottam said that it would probably be the first of its kind structure in India, once completed.
