Dehradun, February 17: Amid reports that Kashmiri students locked themselves at a girls' hostel in Dehradun, Director General of Police Ashok Kumar on Sunday said 'everything is normal'. Kumar dismissed reports of Kashmiri students being attacked in Dehradun in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack. The Central Reserve Police Force also said rumours about attacks on Kashmiri students are being spread on social media.

"Rumours are being spread on social media that girls here are not safe. Everything is normal here. We are providing full protection to everyone," Kumar told news agency ANI. "A protest was taken out in the wake of Pulwama terrorist attack by local people on Saturday where they raised anti-Pakistan slogan. It has been alleged that girls of Dolphin Institute shouted slogans in support of Pakistan from the hostel later. However, we don’t have proof about it yet," the DGP added.

On Saturday, a Kashmiri student was arrested for allegedly making insensitive and communal posts on social media in the wake of Pulwama terror attack. Reacting to this, Kumar said: "Uttarakhand Police has provided full protection to all the people including the students from Kashmir. Our stand is clear – if someone posts something or even talk things that are anti-national, action will be taken against them." Pulwama Terror Attack: How CRPF Jawans Fell in JeM Trap.

Earlier today, the CRPF also issued an advisory dismissing reports of attacks on Kashmiri students living in other parts of the country. "Fake news about harassment of students from #Kashmir is being propagated by various miscreants on social media. CRPF helpline has enquired about complaints about harassment and found them incorrect. These are attempts to invoke hatred Please DO NOT circulate such posts (sic)," read a tweet of CRPF.

The advisory comes after media reports suggested that Kashmiri students had to lock themselves up in Dehradun in order to remain safe as mob violence erupted over the ghastly terror attack in Pulwama. Following the reports of attacks on Kashmiri students, Jammu and Kashmir police issued a helpline number.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Home Affairs also issued an advisory to all states and Union Territories to take necessary measures and ensure the safety and security of people belonging to Jammu and Kashmir. 40 CRPF personnel were killed in Awantipora in an attack orchestrated by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The convoy of 78 buses, in which around 2500 CRPF personnel were travelling from Jammu to Srinagar, came under attack around 3.15 pm at Ladhu Modi Lethpora on February 14.
