Srinagar, October 8: In the latest incident of Kashmiri students joining terror groups, 21-year-old Shoaib Ahmed Lone, an engineering student who was studying at a Dehradun college, has joined a terrorist outfit just two weeks after he went missing. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, Lone has joined the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. Kulgam superintendent of police Harmeet Singh also confirmed this to the media.
The 21-year-old Kashmiri student was studying BTech (IT) at Dehradun’s Alpine Institute of Management and Technology (AIMT). As per reports, he left Dehradun on September 20 but did not reach home. Lone’s father was also a terrorist who was killed in the nineties, so he was raised by his mother alone. The Kashmiri student’s family members came to know about him joining the terror group from the social media where he posted his photographs. AIMT director SK Chauhan said told Hindustan Times, “We came to know about his joining militancy after officials from security agencies inquired about him”. Chauhan further added that after sitting for his fourth-semester examination in June, Lone left for home and was supposed to return to college in August. Chauhan also claimed that on enquiring about him at his house, the college authorities were told that he could not return as his mother was ill. According to the report, he returned to college on September 19, but left a day after, saying that his mother was seriously ill. Lone belongs to Bumrath village in Kulgam. His mother through a video appealed him to return to normal life. She also threatened him of ending her life if he does not return.
