Cabinet Meeting Today Amid the Rising Tensions in J&K
The Union cabinet will meet at the official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today amid rising tensions in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting, set to take place at 9:30 am at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, will happen following the house arrest of National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti and Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference chairman Sajad Lone.

Reportedly, following the rising tension in Kashmir, Union home minister Amit Shah held a detailed security review with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Union home secretary Rajiv Gauba, Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Arvind Kumar and Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) chief Samant Goel in his chamber at Parliament House on Sunday.
Amarnath Yatra 2019 Curtailed
The J&K administration was prompted to curtail the Amarnath yatra after the Indian Army said that Pakistan terrorists were plotting to carry out an attack on the ongoing pilgrimage and that the security forces had recovered a Pakistan Ordnance factory anti-personnel mine from a terror cache. The Amarnath pilgrims were asked to vacate immediately following the threats.
BAT infiltration
In the next few days, Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) tried to infiltrate Kashmir and attack a forward post along the LoC in the Keran sector. The Indian Army, however, managed to foil the attempt to infiltrate, killing five to seven intruders. BAT attack happened in the other three areas like- Gurez, Machil and Tangdhar.
There has been an atmosphere of great panic and tension in the state, and more after the government ordered the deployment of additional troops in the state. Schools, colleges have been shut and Jammu University examination which was supposed to take place today has been postponed.
