Kashmir Turmoil: Centre Bans Large Gatherings in Ladakh's Kargil, Dras and Sankoo After Tension Escalates With Pakistan
Days after imposing restriction in Jammu and Kashmir, amid escalating tensions and security threats near the international border, the Indian government on Thursday banned large gatherings banned in Ladakh's Kargil, Dras and Sankoo. Even National Security Advisor is in Kashmir who is monitoring the security situation of the Valley.
Srinagar/New Delhi, August 8: Days after imposing restriction in Jammu and Kashmir, amid escalating tensions and security threats near the international border, the Indian government on Thursday banned large gatherings banned in Ladakh's Kargil, Dras and Sankoo. Even National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is in Kashmir, who is monitoring the security situation of the Valley.
According to the sources, apart from the Section 144 imposed in the Valley, all communications - including internet - were kept suspended since Sunday, a day before the central government issued an executive order revoking J&K's special status by diluting Article 370. Though earlier there were reports that the Modi government might relax the first prohibitory orders in the new bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir by Friday, with the latest order coming from Centre, it might not be easy for relaxing the restrictions possible in the coming times.
On Thursday, a day after Pakistan downgraded diplomatic ties with India and suspended the Samjhauta Express, authorities in India sent an engine to bring the train which halted at the Wagah border. As many as 110 passengers are in the Samjhauta Express train who are stranded as Pakistani train driver and crew refused to enter India.
