Chennai, November 15: A massive life-size statue of late Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi will be unveiled in Tamil Nadu in December. According to reports, the party confirmed about the event on Thursday and said the statue of the late DMK supremo will be held on December 16 in the presence of top leaders. “A life-size statue of Dr Kalaignar will be unveiled by all India leaders,” the party said in a statement without elaborating further.
The DMK informed that Karunanidhi statue will be located alongside a refurbished statue of DMK founder and late chief minister CN Annadurai at the party headquarters. Karunanidhi, who passed away on August 7 this year aged 94, was addressed as ‘Kalaignar’ by party workers and supporters. The DMK chief, one of the foremost Dravidian politicians in modern times, breathed his last at a Chennai hospital where he was admitted. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami said the DMK leader left his "imprint" in national politics and his demise was a "big loss" to Tamil Nadu. Karunanidhi was one of the most charismatic figures of Tamil Nadu politics. The 94-year old leader is survived by two wives and six children, including DMK working president and heir apparent M K Stalin and daughter Kanimozhi.
