Chennai, July 29: The first visuals of ailing DMK chief M Karunanidhi from Kauvery Hospital in Chennai was released on Sunday. In the image, Karunanidhi could be seen lying on the bed, with Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu visiting him. The V-P was accompanied by DMK's working president MK Stalin and his sister Kanimozhi.

Karunanidhi was admitted to the Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet in the wee hours of Saturday, after his blood pressure dipped to alarming levels. Shortly after his admission into the intensive care unit, his condition was reported to be normal as the BP had stabilised.

DMK's propaganda secretary A Raja, while speaking to the media yesterday, said there is no reason to create panic. "He (Karunanidhi) is stable and responding well to treatment," he claimed.

The bulletin issued by the Kauvery Hospital also ruled out any imminent threat. "His blood pressure has been stabilised with medical management and he continues to be monitored and treated by a panel of expert doctors," the hospital said.

Prior to his admission at the Kauvery Hospital, Karunanidhi was being treated at his residence in Gopalapuram after he contracted urinary tract infection.

Scores of DMK workers had gathered outside his residence over the past few days as rumours were rife related to his health. Notably, the 94-year-old leader on Thursday achieved a new feat as it marked the 50th year of him being elected as the DMK president.
