Karunanidhi Health Update: DMK Chief’s Hospitalisation to Be Extended Due To Age-Related Complications
The latest health bulletin issued by the Kauvery Hospital on Tuesday informed that an extended period of hospitalization will be necessary due to age-related overall decline in Karunanidhi's general health, altered liver functions & haematological parameters.
Chennai, July 31: The hospitalisation of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi, who is being treated in Chennai's Kauvery Hospital, is believed to be extended for some more time now due to age-related complications. The latest health bulletin issued by the Kauvery Hospital on Tuesday informed that an extended period of hospitalization will be necessary due to age-related overall decline in Karunanidhi's general health, altered liver functions & haematological parameters.
The hospital in its statement said that the DMK Chief continues to maintain his vital signs with active medical support. Karunanidhi, 94, was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of Kauvery Hospital on Saturday after his blood pressure had dropped. Earlier, he had undergone a procedure at the Kauvery Hospital for replacement of a tracheostomy tube to help him breathe normally.
Earlier today, Congress president Rahul Gandhi met Karunanidhi and wished him a speedy recovery. "I wanted to come & see M Karunanidhi Ji. He is a tough person, I met him & he is stable. Sonia ji has sent her best wishes & regards to the family", the Congress President said after meeting DMK Chief M Karunanidhi at Kauvery hospital in Chennai.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami earlier today said that he met Karunanidhi in ICU along with Stalin and Kanimozhi while Palaniswami in his address to the media said that the DMK chief's "health is stable and good".
The DMK president has not been making any public appearance for the past two years, owing to his ill-health, but he still holds the top post in the Dravidian party. To recall, Karunanidhi has not been keeping well since October 2016.
Security has been beefed up and hundreds of policemen are deployed in and around the hospital in upscale Alwarpet. On Monday, the health bulletin by the Kauvery hospital in Chennai had said that Karunanidhi's vital signs were normalising. Karunanidhi's son and working DMK President MK Stalin on Monday had informed that Karunanidhi's condition is stable and that the veteran leader continues to remain under keen observation of doctors.
