Chennai, July 30:  Ailing Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi, who is being treated at Chennai's Kauvery Hospital, is recovering and is under keen observation of the doctors. Karunanidhi's son and DMK working President MK Stalin on Monday informed that his ailing father's condition is now stable as stated in the medical bulletin that was released by the hospital authorities on Sunday. "He continues to be under keen observation of the doctors. M Karunanidhi's condition is stable as stated in yesterday's medical bulletin", Stalin was quoted by ANI.

Karunanidhi, 94, was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chennai's Kauvery Hospital at 1:30 am on Friday. The hospital in a statement said that he was brought there after his blood pressure had dropped.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday visited the hospital to inquire about the DMK Chief's health condition. Apart from Naidu, several senior DMK leaders, including working president M.K. Stalin and his estranged elder brother M.K. Azhagiri were at the hospital. The other leaders who visited the ailing DMK Chief include CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, TMC leader Derek O'Brien, BJP leader Muralidhar Rao and the party's Tamil Nadu unit party president Tamilisai Soundararajan.

The DMK on Sunday released a photograph, the first after Karunanidhi's hospitalisation early yesterday, showing Naidu standing beside the 94-year-old leader in his hospital bed. Party leaders said the picture did not feature any "life support system like a ventilator" and it was reassuring that their Thalaivar (leader) was recuperating well.
