Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday said that former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will attend the opening ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor. Qureshi, speaking to Pakistan's Capital TV, said has agreed to come but not a chief guest but as an "ordinary man."
New Delhi, October 19: Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday said that former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will attend the opening ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor. Qureshi, speaking to Pakistan's Capital Tv, said Singh has agreed to come to the event but not a chief guest but as an "ordinary man." Pakistan will formally inauguration the much-awaited Kartarpur Corridor on November 9, three days ahead of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.
"I had invited former PM of India Manmohan Singh. I'm thankful to him, he wrote me a letter and said, 'I'll come but not as a chief guest but an ordinary man.' Earlier this month, Pakistan had extended an invitation to Singh for the inauguration of the corridor. However, there were reports that the former Prime Minister will not accept the invitation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the corridor- which connects Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab's Gurdaspur to Darbar Sahib Gurudwara in Pakistan- on November 8.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who was also invited to Pakstan, ruled out his presence. He said that he would be leading the first all-party 'jatha' (delegation) to the Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara to pay obeisance.
